Frances Lai Wang
Artist's Statement ::
I do not merely paint the surfaces of the objects; rather search for the essence of them. Fragmentation of the objects into their essential volumes, planes and pattern creating dynamism and rhythm in space is the ultimate challenge to me. I believe what Mondrian said, “the surface of things gives enjoyment, the interiority gives life.”
Trained as a chemist, however, found her passion in art. Frances took early retirement from teaching chemistry and went back to school, received her B.A in Fine Art at California State University at Long Beach in 1989. Spent last ten years on Sculpture and Metal Arts, now she is focusing on her first love – Painting and Drawing. Frances has shown her work at numerous art shows and she just had a successful solo show of her painting and sculpture and metal arts this June at the Schroeder Gallery, Orange, California. She was also in a group show at the JKD Gallery in Santa Monica California.
