Artist's Statement  ::
I believe all visual art is made up of symbols that have meaning, just as the written word does. These symbols can be seen as universal and also can be looked at on a personal level. In my paintings I use forms taken from nature to convey ideas; I try to break down the complexities of the world I see to the simplest form and essence of meaning. As the expression of a visual language the forms are developed from the concept that events occurring in nature mirror human experiences of the spirit. The results communicate not only my own vision, but also can be understood as a universal language. These images are meant to stimulate the imagination and thoughts of the viewer. They provide a starting point from which the viewer can add their own understanding and experience to the meaning of what they see.
